Designing a garden is a complex task. All the element should fit together and the surfaces are as important as any other feature in the garden. A key priority is the appearance of the material in combination with other elements – architecture of the house or fence. It is important to remeber about texture, color and size of the elements. It should be consider how the material will look like with the whole area and if it fits the character to the coveted garden. Beautiful effects can be obtained by combining various materials of different colors, or size of components. For example precious cobblestone, bricks, concrete slabs or stone work well on driveways  and paths. They are durable and easy to maintain. Regular shapes look good in both modern and traditional gardens. The availability of many different colours and shapes leaves a lot of space for garden designer invention.

The alternative to a regular stone slabs of concrete pavement  and stone pavements are irregular stone slabs or wooden cubes.  These materials , are usually for paving garden paths  or squares.
Paths in the garden can also be made from materials like gravel or bark. However, they require a bit more maintenance than those made of concrete paving blocks.

Another option is to choose 'ecoraster ’. Ecoraster is an environmentally friendly material used to reinforce ground. It prevents erosion and provides water drainage.

Ecoraster can be filled with gravel or soil and plant grass or plants resistant to trampling i.e.: Festuca glauca, Sagina subulata. Such a pavement is permeable and allows a movement of air and water. It is a very good solution for outdoor parking space.
A bit forgotten pavement material is paradoxically soil. It is permeable and eco-friendly. Natural soil pavements are used in English and historic gardens. The composition of the soil mixtures depends on the native land. It has to be adapted to the type of soil drainage.

Places for the furniture should in turn be made of a material that allows for stable placement of furniture. A place for children is good to do with soft surfaces specially designed for playgrounds or wood or sand. The latter, however, require annual renewal, replenishment and cleaning.

Regardless of the choice of material on the surface think about nice and functional finish the edges, especially edges where hard surface contact with the lawn or plants. It is best to surround lawn with material used on the surface or special curb, so that when mowing the lawn can be cut up to the border.

With a huge selection of natural stones offer both cut slabs and broken or rounded forms, including wood or thick beams, planks and cut crosswise slices of wood but also a variety of bars and concrete slabs can create beautiful surfaces in any garden. The most important when choosing to follow both appearance and properties of the particular material.
